Chapter Ten

Luka

“The difference between a

successful person and others

is not lack of strength, not a

lack of knowledge, but

rather a lack of will.”

– Vince Lombardi

Jealousy. Dark. Angry. Dangerous. The sight of my mate in the arms of my brother, her fingers on his skin and in his hair, made me want to rip Xander apart. Limb by limb. It was the hurt and distress clouding her usually warm hazel eyes that stopped me in my tracks. I did that. I put that look in her eyes and had them swimming with unshed tears.

Hell, she had me tied in so many knots I felt out of control, unbalanced, and confused as fuck. A state of being that I’d never experienced before. I wasn’t even sure of what my stance on claiming was anymore. The sight of her in my brother’s arms seems to have changed everything.

When she had kissed me earlier, I hadn’t been prepared for the overpowering jolt of emotions that ripped through every pore of my body. My body had vibrated with it, almost combusting from the potent impact of her taste. Our chemistry had grown even more exponentially than I anticipated. I thought I could control this. Thought that I could beat fate. After having her in my arms, I knew absolutely that nothing and no one could keep me away from her.

I hated to admit it, but she had made a distinct dent in the massive wall I’d erected around my heart since I was a boy. The experience of my mother selling us into what amounted to slavery had been my wall’s foundation. That experience had been pure steel. And it felt as though Luna was swinging a wrecking ball at it and it will soon be reduced to rubble if I’m not careful.

Before I could go after Luna, my mistresses tightened their arms and legs around me in their now familiar possessive holds. I tried like hell to hide the fact that I was fighting a congealing bile of distaste from projecting at their clogging scents. That kiss that Nicolette had forced on me still had my stomach churning nauseatingly. Every time I tried to gently remove their hold, they would find another part of my body or piece of clothing to latch on to. Talking a-mile-a-minute, they fussed over me, asking whether Luna would be joining them in their suite of rooms.

Despite my impatience with the whole thing, it still took me almost twenty minutes to calm them and assure them that Luna was not their concern, nor would she be joining their ranks. I was only able to breathe out as soon as they left to go back to their suite.

“You’re such an ass.” Drako’s disgust surprised me.

To be honest, I had forgotten that he was still in the room. In the hundreds of years that I’d known my brother, Drako had never so much as frowned at me. Sure, we ribbed each other as most brothers did, but Drako always did it with a devil-may-care grin or sarcastic commentary.
